Backboard The solid piece of acid free foamboard directly behind the mountboard which serves as a protective backing to the finished piece.
Caring for your CD Frame: Use a mild glass cleaner and soft cloth to remove dirt and fingerprints. Use caution when hanging your display by following these simple rules of thumb: 1. Avoid hanging any framed art in direct sunlight. Even though your CD project is protected with Conservation Clear TM Glass, which blocks 97% of ultra-violet rays (regular picture glass blocks NONE), the slight 3% exposure can still present risk of color loss. 2. Avoid hanging any art on walls which abut plumbing pipes (kitchen, bathroom, laundry, etc.), as the humidity can create condensation inside the frame which could result in mildew. 3. Avoid hanging any art on certain exterior walls in hotter regions (or hot seasons) which are exposed to a lot of direct sunlight and heat. Over-heating framed art can lead to buckling and warping. This also applies to hanging any art above fire places.
Float-mounted means to "elevate" the artwork from the backboard by using acid free foamboard shims mounted to the artwork, which is then mounted to the mountboard to create a 3-dimensional shadowbox display.
Foamboard is what we use as the "backboard" and also as shim-stock to elevate matboards and glass, and float-mount Artpieces. We use acid free foamboard, which is 1/8" - 3/16" thick, as the rigid protective backing on all our CD Frame Plaques.
Frames are made of metal or wood moulding (and sometimes other material). Typically, four lengths of miter-cut moulding have been joined to create a protective and decorative border around artwork, matting, and glass.
Conservation Clear™ Glass blocks 98% of ultra-violet rays to safeguard your investments against UV damage. It's our standard picture framing glass - you should make it your standard choice too. Read "Why Conservation Framing" for more info.
Wire Hanger this is the standard wire & eye-screws which extend across the back of the frame to suspend on a nail or hook in the wall.
Our Keycode is simple to understand.
M, N
The 1st character of an item number: "M" = a matted design "N" = a No mat
The 2nd (and sometimes 3rd) character of an item number: "H" = horizontal display "V" = vertical display "T" = diagonal display
The string of numbers following the first 2 or 3 characters represent the size of the frame in inches. The first 2 digits represent width, and the last 2 represent height.

Matboard (AKA: Mat; Top Mat; Bottom Mat; Single Mat; Double Mat;) is the piece of colored acid-free "board" in which an opening is cut to create a border around artwork. Matting also helps to elevate glass from artwork, allowing "airing" of moisture. We use only Tru Vue'sTM UltiMat® and UltiBlack® Artboards which feature a beautiful palette of acid-free facing papers with acid & lignin-free, groundwood-free alpha-cellulose cores. All of Tru Vue's Ultimats and Ultiblacks meet the Library of Congress standards for fade and bleed resistance.
